cricket
West Indies batsman, Marlon Samuels has announced
his retirement from professional cricket.
The 39-year-old had informed Cricket West Indies (CWI)
about his retirement in June this year, having last played for
his country in December 2018 against Bangladesh.
He has played 71 Tests, 207 ODIs, and 67 T20s at the
international level, has scored 11,134 international runs
including 17 centuries across all formats. He also has 152
international wickets to his name.

Women's T-20 Challenger gets underway in Sharjah
The Third Season of the Women's T20 Challenge beganwith
defending champions Supernovas taking on Velocity in
Sharjah. India T20I captain Harmanpreet Kaur led defending
champions the Supernovas and take on Mithali Raj-led
Velocity.
This tournament, like previous editions, will take place during
the IPL playoffs. The three teams - Supernovas, Velocity and
Trailblazers - are set to play three matches in Sharjah, with
the final scheduled on 9th of November at the same venue.
Following the Corona virus pandemic, the Indian Women's
team hasn't played any competitive cricket since the T20
World Cup final against Australia which was played on 8th of
March.

Tennis star Novak Djokovic yet again clinched year-end
world number one ranking, his record sixth time after the
Sofia Open draw was published on November 6, 2020.
With this, the 33-year-old player has equaled the record of
American Tennis great Pete Sampras, who ended with world
number one ranking for six straight years between 1993 and
1998.
Pete Sampras was somebody Djokovic looked up to when he

Russian, Daniil Medvedev has won Paris Master 2020
title in tennis when he beat AlexanderZverev 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 in
Paris. He became the fourth Russian to capture the Rolex

Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals by five wickets in the
final of Indian Premier League 2020.

Sports Ministry announces new incentive structure to fund 500
private academies
In a first-ever move, the Sports Ministry has introduced a
incentivisation structure to extend monetary support to 500
private academies, through the Khelo India Scheme over the
next four years starting FY 2020-21.
In this model, private academies shall be graded into different
categories based on quality achievement of players trained by
the academy, level of coaches available at the academy,
quality of Field of Play and allied infrastructure, availability
of sports science facilities and staff. The 14 priority
disciplines identified for excellence in 2028 Olympics will be
eligible for receiving support in the first phase.
Speaking of the decision, Union Minister of Youth Affairs
and Sports, Shri. Kiren Rijiju said, "It is important for the
government to extend support to these institutions so that
sporting talent can be groomed even in the most remote areas
of the country. There are a lot of small academies in various
parts of the country that are doing very good work in
identifying and training athletes. This move aims to
encourage all academies, especially the private academies to
continue improving the level of infrastructure, resources and
sports science support so that athletes can get best in class
training."
