Businesses need to retain their software system logs for long
periods to comply with regulations and standards such as the
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA),
US Executive Order 14028, Basel II Accord, Center for Internet
Security (CIS) Critical Security Controls, Payment Card
Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), Sarbanes–Oxley
Act (SOX), and System and Organization Controls 2 (SOC 2).
Today, IT and engineering teams must make painful tradeoffs
between ease of use and saving money. Hot log storage
solutions are easy to use but prohibitively expensive for long-
term storage. Cold log storage solutions cost less but are
excessively toilsome to maintain and query, and they often
lead to surprise bills.
Overview
New Relic live archives combines affordability, ease of use,
and performance. It helps businesses comply with regulatory
requirements by storing logs in an active, hydrated, and
enriched state for up to seven years. So engineers can
analyze logs more quickly and effectively without the hassles
of rehydration, reloading, re-indexing, and moving data to
multiple locations or tiers. Additionally, it’s cost-effective,
priced at just a quarter of other long-term storage solutions.
Key benefits of live archives
Live archives eliminates the complexities of managing
multiple storage locations and navigating arduous data
retrieval processes. It’s revolutionized how you manage
compliance risks and analyze historical logs.
Access historical logs instantly. Because your logs never
leave New Relic, you get seamless, hassle-free query
access to your data without delay. Your historical logs are
managed and accessed as quickly as any other logs using
the same user interface that you use for other queries—no
extra steps are required.
Eliminate toil. Theres no need for the manual and
time-consuming steps of traditional solutions, such as
rehydrating, reloading, re-indexing logs, or moving data to
multiple locations or tiers for analysis. And theres no need
to bring your own storage solutions (such as S3 buckets)
or pull historical logs separately.
Reduce costs. Say goodbye to the additional costs
associated with traditional long-term log storage
solutions, such as the need to pay for ingress and egress,
indexing, reformatting log data, or licenses for additional
log tools.
Pay for what you use
With live archives, you pay for:
Ingest: Based on either our original data option (US$0.30/
GB with at least eight days of default data retention) or
Data Plus (US$0.50/GB with 90 days extra data retention
over the default).
Additional data retention: Billed at US$0.005/GB per
month (promotional price) beyond default data retention.
Queries: Measured in compute capacity units (CCUs),
which calculate the amount of compute resources used to
complete your query.
