FAIA General
Counsel Laura
Pearce
Last week, in the case of Harveyvs.GEICO, the Florida Supreme
Court reversed the decision of the Fourth District Court of Appeal and
reinstated the trial court judgment and jury decision. The trial court
found that GEICO acted in bad faith by failing to settle a third-party
claim against Harvey. How did this happen and what could it lead to?

Surveytoassessagentsatisfactionwithcarriers
The second annual Independent Agent Satisfaction Survey is
underway—and your help is needed to ensure robust results. The
study, conducted by J.D. Power and the Big “I”, has emerged as the
go-to source for top carriers seeking to improve their performance
with independent agents. What’s in it for you? A $50 Amazon gift card
and, more importantly, an opportunity to drive change in the
industry. You’ll need your IIABA credentials to log in and participate.

‘activeshooter’coverage
Commercial Lines
consultant Keith
Jones

other establishments populate the news, agents can’t help but
consider the ramifications faced by the business and property owners
involved and the lawsuits they face afterward. While there may be
coverage available under commercial general lines programs, writes
KeithJones, it’s time for agents to explore available coverage
options and begin discussing active shooter coverage with commercial
clients.

FAIA Instructor
David Thompson
As if asking for evidence of “100 percent replacement cost” and access
to your agency’s replacement cost estimator information wasn’t bad
