Vanderbilt University School of Medicine
AMCAS Application and Acceptance Protocols 2024
(Updated January 31, 2024)
The AMCAS Applicant Protocols are in place to ensure a fair process for candidates
and for medical schools; applicants agree to abide by the Protocols when they submit
their AMCAS application. It is Vanderbilt’s policy to support the AMCAS Application and
Acceptance Protocols and encourage an honest dialog between admitted candidates
and the school. The following information contains important steps and dates in the
process.
Step 1-“Plan to Enroll” Starting February 20, 2024
Starting on or around February 20, 2024, the AAMC “Choose Your Medical School”
portal will be ready for admitted candidates to indicate where they plan to enroll, based
on offers received. The AAMC will email candidates about this tool. To assist with
enrollment predictions, Vanderbilt encourages candidates to keep their non-binding
“Plan to Enroll” status current. Per our policy, an applicant whose first choice is
Vanderbilt University School of Medicine must indicate their desire to “Plan to Enroll” no
later than April 30, 2024 (more information is in Step 2).
Step 2-Final “Plan to Enroll” Action by April 30, 2024
By April 30, 2024, candidates must withdraw from all but one school. If the candidate
intends to attend Vanderbilt, he/she/they must indicate “Plan to Enroll” in the “Choose
Your Medical School” tool by 11:59PM Central Time on April 29, 2024. Vanderbilt
reserves the right to contact an admitted candidate if the individual is not compliant with
this protocol. Candidates may remain on other schools’ waitlists.
Step 3-“Commit to Enroll” Action Made 21 days before Orientation
Different from the “Plan to Enroll” is the binding “Commit to Enroll”. Admitted
candidates may indicate they “Commit to Enroll” as early as April 30, 2024, if Vanderbilt
is the first choice. When a candidate indicates they “Commit to Enroll”, the candidate
must have withdrawn from all waitlists and from any other acceptances (by contacting
the individual school) following the school’s stated protocols. Failure to comply with this
process by midnight Central Time on the dates indicated below may result in the
rescission of the candidate’s acceptance. Vanderbilt encourages candidates stay
connected with admissions during this time.
MSTP, Commit to Enroll by Friday, May 24, 2024 (MSTP Orientation June 17, 2024)
MD, Commit to Enroll by Monday, June 24, 2024. (MD Orientation July 15, 2024)
(Continued on Second Page)
Additional Acceptances After April 30, 2024:
If an admitted candidate who “Plans to Enroll” after April 30th receives an admissions
offer from another institution before the Commit to Enroll date the individual must notify
Vanderbilt at [email protected]du within 24 hours and provide the amount of
time one has to respond to it. In addition, we kindly ask individuals to provide the name
of the school who made the offer, but that is not required.
Withdrawal Process
If a candidate wishes to matriculate at another school or be released from Vanderbilt’s
waitlist, the individual should send an email with their AAMC ID number stating that
desire to mdadm[email protected].
Vanderbilt recognizes the application process to medical school can be confusing and
challenging. Applicants are strongly encouraged to discuss any questions or concerns
with the Office of Enrollment Services. The admissions and financial aid administrators
are more than happy to assist applicants throughout the process.
