Renowned Midwest comedian set to entertain on the eve of the 62

Lumberjack World Championships
Hayward, WI (April 6, 2022) The Lumberjack World Championship Foundation welcomes Charlie Berens to
Lumberjack Bowl on Wednesday, July 27. Berens will perform the night before the 62
nd
annual Lumberjack
World Championships (LWC) which will take place July 28-30. The Emmy-winning journalist, comedian, host and
creator of the Manitowoc Minute will be the first to perform with the new bleachers installed at Hayward’s
historic Lumberjack Bowl. Charlie Berens will perform at 7pm with doors opening to the Lumberjack Bowl
Festival Grounds at 5pm. Festival grounds will offer food trucks and vendors. Tickets will go on sale on April 20
th
for $30 and $40 respectively.
After 2020 postponement and competition of US athletes only during 2021, the 62
nd
annual Lumberjack World
Championship Foundation is excited to welcome athletes from around the world back to Wisconsin’s
Northwoods. The athletes will compete for a purse of more than $71,000 in a variety of timber sports,
including, logrolling, boom running, sawing, chopping, axe throwing and speed climbing. Professional athlete
registration opens April 15 and amateur athlete registration opens May 20

Lumberjack World Championships
Wednesday, July 27: Live at Lumberjack Bowl: Charlie Berens. Gates open at 5pm, Swinging Axe Beer
Tent and food vendors will be available. Show starts at 7. Tickets are available for $30 and $40 at
www.lumberjackbowl.com
Thursday, July 28: Gates open at 11:30 am, with competition qualifiers, demonstrations and food
vendors open throughout the day. Happy hour from 3-5pm in the Swinging Axe Beer Tent with live
music by Molly and the Danger Band. Professional Quarterfinals take place in the evening.
Friday, July 29: Gates open at 11:30 am, with competition qualifiers, demonstrations and food vendors
open throughout the day. Happy hour from 3-5pm in the Swinging Axe Beer Tent, with live music by
Scott Kirby and special guest, Ed Willett. Professional Semi-Finals take place in the evening.
Saturday, July 30: Gates open at 11:30. Professional log rolling, axe throwing competitions,
demonstrations and food vendors open throughout the day. Happy hour from 3pm to 5pm with live
music from Steve Beguhn, American Idol finalist, in the Swinging Axe Beer Tent. World Championship
Finals take place in the evening.
Storied history
The tradition of competition between lumberjacks began in the 1890s. In keeping with the timber
sports tradition, the 62
nd
annual Lumberjack World Championships again will be held in beautiful and
historic Lumberjack Bowl on the shores of Lake Hayward, Hayward, WI. At its beginning, Lumberjack
Bowl was once a holding pond for log drives down the Namekagon River. While timber sports were
born over a century ago, the sport continues to grow in worldwide popularity today. The 62

Charlie Berens Bio
CHARLIE BERENS is an Emmy-winning journalist, comedian, host, and creator of the Manitowoc
Minute. The Wisconsin native has been featured on Fox, CBS, Funny or Die, TBS Digital, Variety, MTV
News and more. Charlie began his career working for MTV News' Choose or Lose. In 2012, Tribune
Media tapped Charlie to host the comedic news show Nightcap. In 2013, he won an Emmy for "The
Cost of Water" while reporting for KDAF, a television station in Dallas, TX.

Lumberjack Run 5K Run/Walk
On Saturday, July 30 in conjunction with Lumberjack World Championships, everyone is invited to
participate in the Birkie Lumberjack 5K Run-Walk. It starts at 8 a.m. on Hall of Fame Drive just outside
the Lumberjack Bowl gate and finishes on the Lumberjack Bowl grounds on the shores of Lake
Hayward. Participants will receive a T-shirt (while supplies last). Entry fees for ages 18 and over are
$35 through July 27, $40 from July 28 through 29

, and $45 on race day (July 30). Ages 17 and under
