1. Student Services
Home of the One Stop Student
Services Center. Find out the status
of your admissions or financial aid
applications, order transcripts and more.
This building houses bursar/cashier
services, the Disability Programs and
Resource Center (DPRC), Counseling
and Psychological Services, Career
Services and Leadership Development,
OneCard services, the Registrar’s
Oce, Undergraduate Admissions and
Recruitment, and Veterans Services.
2. Burk Hall
This building is home to the Graduate
College of Education, the Family,
Interiors, Nutrition and Apparel
Department and the School of
Nursing. The student-run Vista Room
restaurant is on the fourth floor.
3. Student Health Center
This medical clinic oers outpatient
care for illness and injury, lab tests
and X-rays, family planning, personal
counseling and more. The student
health fee covers most services.
4. Ethnic Studies & Psychology
This is home to the College of Ethnic
Studies, which includes Africana Studies,
American Indian Studies, Asian American
Studies, Latina/Latino Studies and Race
and Resistance Studies. The Psychology
Department is on the third floor.
5. Gymnasium
Home to the Athletics and Kinesiology
departments. The building features
two gyms, an indoor pool, weight
room and dance studios.
6. Thornton Hall
This is home to the College of Science &
Engineering. Check out the fourth-floor
planetarium and the roof observatory.
7. Hensill Hall
The Department of Biology and many of
its programs, services and labs are here.
8. Science
The School of Engineering and the
Marian Wright Edelman Institute,
where students and scholars
collaborate with community partners
to address the needs of children,
youth and families, are located here.
9. HSS
The main oces of the College of
Health & Social Sciences are located
in this building, as are the Institute for
Civic and Community Engagement
(ICCE), TRiO Student Support
Services, the Campus Academic
Resource Program (CARP) and the
Metro College Success Program.
10. Business
This is the home of the Lam Family
College of Business. Students have
access to a variety of resources,
including Metro Academies advisors,
the Career Services and Professional
Development Center and a
computer lab.
11. Administration
Many administrative and business
oces and some student and academic
services are here. They include
Undergraduate Advising, a Bursar’s
Oce service station, Information
Technology Services, Graduate Studies,
Human Resources, the President’s
Oce and Undergraduate Education.
12. J. Paul Leonard Library
The Library is a state-of-the-art
teaching and learning center housing
its own Special Collections & Archives
as well as the Sutro Library, Academic
Technology and the Center for
Equity and Excellence in Teaching
and Learning. This fully accessible
facility provides an environment for
study and collaboration, including
computing and other technology
support, reservable rooms and a
Digital Media Studio/MakerSpace.
13. Cesar Chavez Student
Center
Named in honor of the late labor
leader, this building — known for its
many murals — houses the SF State
Bookstore, restaurants, lounges, a
multicultural center, pub, student art
gallery and ATMs. This is also home to
the Associated Students organization.
An Information Desk can be found by
the entrance closest to the Quad.
14. Garden of Remembrance
The Garden of Remembrance
honors Japanese Americans —
among them 19 SF State students
— interned during World War II.
15. Fine Arts
The Fine Arts building features a film
soundstage, an animation studio,
recording and mixing rooms, film- and
sound-editing labs, digital media labs, a
state-of-the-art collections preservation
facility and various art studios. The
oces for the School of Art, the School
of Cinema, the School of Design and
the Department of Anthropology can
be found here. Classes and motion
picture screenings are held at the 150-
seat August Coppola Theater on the
first floor. The Fine Arts Gallery and the
Global Museum are on the second floor.
16. Creative Arts
This is home to the School of Music
and the School of Theatre and Dance.
Performances are held in the McKenna
Theatre, Knuth Hall, the Studio
Theatre, the Little Theatre and other
spaces, and there are multiple set,
costume and prop construction labs.
17. Humanities
This building houses the College of
Liberal & Creative Arts and most of
its departments as well as the Poetry
Center, the American Poetry Archives
and the American Language Institute.
18. Village at Centennial
Square
The Village at Centennial Square is
an apartment-style community that
provides residents with a social/lifestyle
experience by incorporating eating
options, a convenience store and a
number of dierent living communities.
Furnished two- and three-bedroom
apartments are available for
first-time freshmen.
19. Mary Park/Mary
Ward Residence Halls
Mary Park Hall and Mary Ward
Hall are traditional residence hall
communities for freshmen. These
communities oer a wide variety of
resources, support and programs
designed to facilitate successful
transition to the campus community.
20. Towers at
Centennial Square
The Towers oers students an
opportunity to feel more independent
through full suite-style housing.
Furnished one- and two-bedroom units
are available for freshmen along with
various Living Learning Communities
designed to provide a more meaningful
and connected experience. Adjacent
to this building is the Towers Jr.
Suites, which oers freshmen semi
suite-style housing along with various
themed living communities.
21. Mashouf Wellness Center
This student-driven facility features
a climbing wall, exercise studios,
gymnasium spaces, an indoor pool
facility with spa and sauna, a jogging
track, racquetball/squash courts and
more. The center oers recreation
and wellness programs and activities
including game nights, outdoor
trips, wellness workshops, personal
training, intramural and sport clubs,
group fitness classes and more.
22. Marcus Hall
The newest addition to the campus
is the home of Broadcast and
Electronic Communication Arts (BECA)
and is oufitted with cutting edge
multimedia labs and classrooms.
23. Manzanita Square
Located just steps away from campus,
this state-of-the-art building includes
residential apartments, a spacious
outdoor courtyard, retail, student
support spaces and laundry facilities.

25. University Park South
These communities provide
independent apartment living for
transfer students, returning residents
and students with families. They
are conveniently located next to
campus and provide a variety of
housing options.

Once upon a time, SF State had real baby alligators
named Oogie and Albert as mascots. They were
donated to a private zoo in 1947 after school
officials realized that baby alligators grow up.
The hallways of the Fine Arts Building are lined
with posters from films and televisions shows that
SF State students and alumni have worked on.
